Embrace your BMI: It is One of the Gateways to your Wellness.

LET’S TALK ABOUT YOUR BMI!

Let’s talk about your Body Mass Index today!  When BMI is mentioned a lot of people immediately think of their weight and they simply or shyly avoid that topic lol.

We totally get you on that but here is another way to look at it – BMI just kinda gives us a little information about ourselves, IT IS AN ESTIMATE, it gives us an estimate of our body fat and an insight to our heart health.

The higher your BMI, the higher your risk for certain diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, gallstones breathing problems and certain cancers. So, knowing and understanding your BMI gives you a tool to HANDLE your health.

The BMI is an attempt to quantify the amount of tissue mass (muscle, fat, and bone) in an individual, and then categorize that person as underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese based on that value.

  • Body mass index, or BMI, is used to determine whether you are in a healthy weight range for your height.

  • It is useful to consider BMI alongside waist circumference, as waist measurement helps to assess risk by measuring the amount of fat carried around your middle.

  • Your BMI is based on your height and weight. It's one way to see if you're at a healthy weight.

Underweight: BMI less than 18.5

Healthy weight: BMI 18.5 to 24.9
