WHAT MAKES GLEAD DIFFERENT?

  • Fully funded, or close to it. We help schools identify and apply for grants that can cover most or all of the program cost per student. That means South Africa becomes possible for schools and families who thought it was out of reach.

  • Homestay based, not hotel based. Students live with local host families, vetted by our long-standing NGO partners on the ground. This is real immersion, not a tour.

  • Built around real academic content. Apartheid history. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Social entrepreneurship. Energy justice. Our programs are designed to connect directly to what your students are already learning at home.

  • Meaningful service, not photo ops. Every trip includes a service project with a trusted local NGO. Students contribute to something real, alongside the community, not for them.

  • Safety first, always. Every host family and partner is personally vetted. Every trip includes a pre-departure site visit by your faculty. Full risk management, insurance, and 24/7 in-country support.

What a GLEAD Program Looks Like

  • A typical two- to three-week program includes:

    1. Homestay with a vetted host family in Cape Town
    2. A daily academic anchor built around apartheid history and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission
    3. A service project with a local NGO partner
    4. Weekend excursions to Robben Island, the District Six Museum, Cape Point, and Table Mountain
    5. Faculty from your school traveling with the group
    6. Full ground logistics: transport, meals, insurance, 24/7 support
    7. Pre-trip site visit for your faculty to check everything in person

  • Who Is GLEAD For?

    • Independent schools running an M-Term, J-Term, or short-term travel program
    • Public schools with an international or social justice focus
    • Colleges and universities running short-term study abroad
    • Any school that wants South Africa on its map but has been blocked by cost

Who We Are

  • GLEAD is run by AJO Wellness Group, a U.S. and South Africa-based organization with deep roots in both countries. We work with a hand-picked network of homestay providers, NGOs, transport partners, and hospitals in Cape Town, all vetted for safety and quality.

    Our current US school partners are Bay Area private high schools launching their program in May 2027 and 2028. We are actively forging partnerships with private high schools and are confidently establishing our next cohort of school partners for the years 2028 and 2029.

ÀJÒ” means journey in Yoruba, and this program lives up to the name. With a focus on Adventure, Authenticity, and Alignment, we help students nurture their full selves through immersive travel, reflective practice, and culturally rich leadership development.
